Building the Next Maritime Workforce
Connecting K–12 Students to Maritime Career Opportunities in Hampton Roads
¹ú²úÂ×Àí’s Center for Educational Innovation and Opportunity is partnering with the Hampton Roads Workforce Council to increase awareness of maritime career opportunities among K–12 students and educators.
Through this partnership, we aim to strengthen the region’s education-to-career pipeline by helping students discover the wide range of careers that support Hampton Roads’ maritime industry.
Preparing Students for the Future
Hampton Roads is home to one of the nation’s most important maritime communities. Building its future workforce begins by introducing students to the industry and the opportunities available to them before they enter college or begin their careers.
This initiative is designed to:
- Increase student awareness of maritime careers and career pathways
- Connect K–12 education to the workforce needs of the Hampton Roads maritime industry
- Help educators incorporate maritime careers and industry connections into student learning
- Expand students’ understanding of the skills, education, and training needed for maritime careers
- Strengthen connections among schools, higher education, workforce organizations, and maritime industry partners
