Dr. Jay O'Toole is an Associate Professor and Ph.D. Coordinator for the Management Department. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and holds a Bachelor of Science from Miami University. His research primarily focuses on how teams and organizations can quickly coordinate collective actions by leveraging knowledge-based resources. He also studies the importance of understanding how race influences organizational theory and behavior, with an emphasis on the impact of history and social embeddedness in organizational structures, decisions, and outcomes. He currently teaches courses on business policy and strategy, business and society, and a doctoral seminar on research methods. Prior to earning his doctorate, Jay was an entrepreneur twice, taught high school mathematics through Teach For America, and worked as a consultant for Deloitte Consulting and the Institute for Research and Reform in Education.
Research Interests
Professor O'Toole's research primarily focuses on how teams and organizations can quickly coordinate collective actions by leveraging knowledge-based resources. He also studies the importance of understanding how race influences organizational theory and behavior, with an emphasis on the impact of history and social embeddedness in organizational structures, decisions, and outcomes.
