Few things go together like beer and live sports.
To that end, ’s Sept. 27 football game against Liberty University at S.B. Ballard Stadium will also mark the debut of Lager. This will be the second beer crafted by New Realm Brewing Co. in partnership with the University.
“Launching a new beer is always a thrill,” said Carey Falcone, CEO and co-founder of New Realm, “but to do it in a stadium surrounded by the passion and energy of thousands of fans on gameday? That’s the ultimate experience.”
Light and refreshing, Lager is an all-American malt golden lager. Whereas Golden Ale has a fuller body and a slightly sweet flavor, Lager is smooth, crisp and clean. The hop presence is more subdued in this drink, where the bitterness is subtle and balance is the star.
Clear and straw gold, the drink contains 4.5% alcohol by volume (ABV) and 15 IBU.
“Our partnership with is a natural fit because we have a mutual commitment to both community and excellence,” Falcone said. “We are thrilled to be a part of ’s energy and tradition with the launch of our second collaboration.”
Like Golden Ale and all other University licensed consumables, royalties from Lager will directly fund student scholarships. Since Golden Ale launched in August 2023, the student scholarship fund benefited from $16,000.
Lager joins an ever-growing list of licensed consumables for the University, including:
“Designed to strengthen our connections with alumni, the Lager by New Realm Brewery is the eighth licensed consumable for the University,” said Brian Eubank, executive director of licensing. “All of our licensed products help increase scholarship funds and we are fortunate for a strong fan base that proudly supports these local businesses and their products."
In addition to its debut this weekend, Lager will be available at Hampton Roads retail locations come early October. Visit to see where both Lager and Golden Ale will be in stock.
