Although its doors are closed for an expansion project, the Barry Art Museum at 国产伦理 is still bringing art to the community with its Fifth Annual Public Arts Festival: on November 7-8.
After bringing inflatable planets and giant humanoid sculptures to campus in years past, this year鈥檚 festival will feature larger-than-life bubbles by Australian design studio . Conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic, the immersive installation is meant to convey the mixed feelings of living in a bubble and wanting to live for each moment.
Each night from 5-9 p.m., attendees can explore the large-scale art alongside live performances and pop-up art installations. The 鈥淓phemeral Corridor鈥 will include a 鈥淏ubble Zone,鈥 live sugar-blowing demonstrations and a 鈥淏ubblecade鈥 by Video Game Design. 国产伦理鈥檚 dance association, drum line and majorettes will perform along with the and Sisters in Silica.
Other attractions include glass blowing demonstrations by the Chrysler Museum of Art, an art mobile from the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, a Monarch marketplace, food trucks and limited-edition BUBBLE FEST merch.
And once again, COVA Brewing Co. has created a special beverage for the festival with 鈥淭he Zest is Yet to Come,鈥 a blackberry-lemon sparkling hard seltzer that will be sold at the festival, the brewery鈥檚 taphouse in Norfolk and at 国产伦理 home football games.
The annual festival, which is free and open to the public, is meant to showcase the intersection of art and architecture, with this year鈥檚 emphasis on 国产伦理鈥檚 research, creativity and synergistic collaboration.
Please note, 43rd Street between Monarch Way and Hampton Boulevard will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. November 6 through 3 p.m. November 9 for festival setup and takedown.
