An Expansive Approach

The 3D Media and Material Studies area is committed to rigorous study of contemporary sculptural practice, theory and history. Students are exposed to the expanding scope of three-dimensional studio practice including performance, installation, and time-based art. Our major provides students with a wide-ranging choice of practices and processes, including ceramics, metalsmithing and fibers.

Our Facilities

The 3D Media & Material Studies classrooms are housed in newer facilities in the Barry Arts Building, the Hixon Studio Building and Annex and provide students the equipment necessary to produce their work comfortably and safely.

The Barry Arts Building also houses a Mac lab and the Elise N. Hofheimer Art Library containing over 10,000 volumes on architecture, sculpture, drawing, painting, print media, photography, arts & crafts, in addition to an art reference section.

Just across the street from the Barry Arts Building is the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries and down the street is the brand new Barry Art Museum. These facilities assure that students are surrounded by impressive and inspiring collections of both contemporary and historic arts, crafts, and design.
